The country’s leading Mouth Cancer Charity, the Mouth Cancer Foundation, is marking this year’s Mouth Cancer Awareness Week (Sunday 11th to 18th November 2007) by targeting young people through the Mouth Cancer Voice Awards and encouraging them not to take their voices for granted. Cancer can occur in any part of the mouth, tongue, lips, throat, salivary glands, pharynx, larynx, sinus, and other sites located in the head and neck area. Every 3 hours someone in the UK will die from a Mouth Cancer
The Mouth Cancer Foundation is hosting the first annual Mouth Cancer Voice Awards on Sunday 18th November 2007 to raise awareness of mouth cancer amongst students. The Mouth Cancer Voice Awards will celebrate the most talented, brightest young singing and comedy stars in the country. Twelve finalists performed at a live grand final extravaganza at the Jerwood Vanbrugh Theatre in central London in front of a live studio audience and a celebrity-packed panel of judges to win the prize of a lifetime.
The event was being supported by Pop star and former Atomic Kitten band member Natasha Hamilton. “Mouth Cancer is a disease that has affected my family as it is how my Nan died. The Mouth Cancer Voice Awards raise awareness to Mouth Cancer especially in the student world, and have launched a competition for the UK’s best student singer or comedian, which is a great way to have fun and draw attention to this little known, but deadly disease”.
Natasha is not the only celebrity supporting the awards. Rock band Koopa, BBC 1 Television Presenter Julia Bradbury best known for co-hosting “Watchdog” and performing in “Just the Two of Us”, lead West End theatre star Julie Atherton headlining in “Avenue Q” and Actress and Comedian Helen Lederer from “Absolutely Fabulous” who has first hand experience of the disease when a former boyfriend died from mouth cancer are all supporting the initiative and make up the celebrity panel. Media Ambitions was responsible for the event’s PR campaign which has proved highly successful.
